New Gang Of Four Demo!

They still have it! The Godfather's of Dance/Punk Rock Gang Of Four, are in the works of fresh material. Bassist Dave Allen posted a brand new demo entitled "Password" on his blog Pamplemoose. He had this to say about the new material:

"We are debating, as we do, how we will release the finished goods. Jon King reminds us that our career kick-off was defined by the Damaged Goods EP, a three song, cheaply recorded debut that made a lot of waves in the UK and European press well before we signed to the majors. So how about we start the new round of releases with a 4 song digital EP? Probably. The ‘album’ could then be built over time and released eventually as a CD, but in a compelling, high-value package that makes it valuable to our fans. We have those 4 song ideas as I write and they will be burnished and honed over the next 12 weeks or so. It then makes sense to get them into the hands (and ears) of the public as quickly as possible. Digital makes the most sense along with downloadable artwork, a vinyl record with free MP3s and remixes. And my first choice for remixers would of course be Justice."

Artist Profile: Foals

Foals

Foals are a dance-punk band hailing from Oxford, England. The five-piece group are known through extensive live playing around Great Britain for its mix of indie with elements from techno and math rock. The band has signed with Transgressive Records, and played a number of shows at the 2007 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Foals have been noted for thier high level of technical ability, and their penchant for playing house parties. Unlike other bands, Foals have notably been quite guarded about their demos. Erratic quality control in the songwriting process has left the band hesitant to parade them in front of a wider audience. They have not widely distributed them and have instead opted for their tracks to be streamed only from their Myspace.

HALLELUJAH HOLLA BACK??

What the fuck is this? Remember the guy that won VH1's "The White Rapper Show"? You know, the guy that coined the phrase "Hallelujah Holla Back." Me neither, lol. Anyway, his name is John Brown and his new song/video is a joke. In fact, I thought it was one of those SNL Digital Shorts from Saturday Night Live, but sadly its not. The self pro-claimed "King Of Da Burbz" is the next Vanilla Ice. Watch it for yourself...

Bloc Fluxes For Conan

The boys of the Bloc recently performed their new song "Flux" live on Conan O' Brien. You can watch it hear. The sound was very low (the guitars and vocals not the actual recording video.) I like it, very very different.

Video Of The Week: Week One

I've decided that there are way too many music videos being made and never seeing the light of day to the masses. Most of these videos are only seen by fans and the music elite. So I've decide to bring a few to everyone, once a week. This week:

Bat For Lashes' "What's A Girl To Do?"

Quick bio: Bat For Lashes are an all girl band from Brighton, England. Fronted by Natasha Kahn. Bat For Lashes' music have been compared to singer/songwriters like Bjork, Thom Yorke, Kat Power, Tori Amos, and Kate Bush. so here it is:

Bat For Lashes "What's A Girl To Do"?

on a side note, I really don't care that much for this band or their music, but, I do think this is a very good video.

The Foo Fires

Here is an awesome cover of Arcade Fire's "Keep The Car Running" performed by the Foo Fighters. This cover kills, its almost as good as the original. I think Dave's vocal ability is proven in this song.

Doesn't Dave Grohl look a little bit like Jesus? I saw this and thought in a very sacrilegious way that maybe this song was written as if it was sung by Jesus and he's singing it right before he is taken away by the Romans to be crucified.

read the lyrics here if you don't know them and think about it.

Love Muisc Hate Racism

Bloc Party will appear on a special compilation CD in aid of the Love Music Hate Racism campaign, given away free with the October 10th issue of NME next month. There's no official tracklisting yet, but according to the official LMHR site, the Bloc Party contribution is likely to be a Diplo remix of 'Where Is Home?'. Other artists featured on the CD include Dirty Pretty Things, Maximo Park and Lethal Bizzle.

Speaking to NME, Kele had this to say about Bloc Party's involvement in the project:

"The thing is, I heard what the BNP were proposing to do [giving away albums by white power bands outside British schools and universities] and it sent a real shiver down my spine. They're an evil organisation and the thought of them handing out stuff to young impressionable minds is incredibly frightening. Anything we can do as a band to raise awareness we will do."

Thanks to Bloc Party.net for the heads up.

Jagger Yoga

Cansei de Ser Sexy (or CSS for you sans-hipsters) have debuted a new song entitled "Jagger Yoga" or "Holiday," I have no idea which one it's called but it is definitely worth a listen. Only live recordings exist so far so out a couple of them here is the one of the best quality. enjoi..

p.s. I still love you Lovefoxxx

Libertay, Egalitay, Fraternitay!

Number three is already in the works! Bloc Party are back home in London this week recording and demoing twelve new songs. The boys are once again using Jacknife Lee who produced their sophomore effort "A Weekend In The City." The new songs are only on a trial and error basis and the Bloc may try and put out another single before the end of the year (think Two More Years) before Christmas. Watch and Listen to these two interviews from Gordon and Kele as they talk about the new album and the Reading Festival. enjoi..

A Pox On Your Houses

Finally, it has arrived. Bloc Party played a one-off Fan Club Only gig at the Brighton Concorde 2, in England last week. To the disappointment of most of the "lucky" fans at the show, the Bloc only played one b-side, which was one of my favorites entitled "The Once and Future King." And by "disappointment" I mean at the last "Fan Club Only" show they played the b-sides "Staying Fat," "Always New Depths," and "Skeleton." Though, this is not the first time TOAFK has been played live, it was first played at Asbury Park in New Jersey a few months ago. Only one sketchy recording existed until now. Below is somewhat of a "better" quality, (although still not that great of recording, but hey, it's the best one around right now.") enjoi..

Hungry And Dumb, Hungry And Dumb

Saw Bloc Party twice last week and it was unreal...Best show I ever saw them do. I got Gordon's set list and Kele personally handed me his guitar pick after the show. They played "Tulips" which is a very rare live song now a days. Here's a picture of the set list:

Double The Pleasure, Double The Fun

At work today I was thinking to myself, "What bands have more than one person playing the same instrument at the same time (i.e. two bass players or two drummers.) In my personal opinion, bands that can perform this kind of feat are extraordinary. I know there are some might say its cheesy or retarded to have two playing the same instrument but that's not the case. But oh well, everyone is entitled to their own thoughts. Here are a few songs worth taking a listening to. In the song "Sunday", Bloc Party use two drummers. The bassist Gordon Moakes joins drummer Matt Tong to play this song. The second is a song called "This Mess" by an Australian band by the name of "Wolf & Cub." Wolf & Cub play with two drummers. The second entry is by one of my favorite bands (if you did not know by now) called "Cansei De Ser Sexy" (or CSS.) This song is entitled "Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above, (with the song reference to the late Canadian band "Death From Above 1979".) Cansei De Ser Sexy use two basses in this song, also, the members switch instruments throughout their songs. And last but not least we have a song by the English band "The Go! Team." The song is called "The Power Is On." Like Wolf & Cub, The Go! Team used double drummers

Apparently, there is/was a music video competition going on from one of my favorite artist, Cansei De Ser Sexy, or CSS for those of the English speaking population, for the song entitled "Alcohol" (one of my personal favorites.) Fans were asked to create a "fan-made" video for the song and I think the band recorded themselves singing the song in front of a green screen, since every video has the same performance. Here are a few video entries: Oh, by the way Lovefoxxx (singer) is my new imaginary girlfriend :).
p.s. CSS call Sao Paulo Brazil home and Cansei De Ser Sexy translates from Portuguese into English as meaning "Tired of Being Sexy". It was taken from a quote said by "Beyonce."

New video for "Atlantis to Interzone" by the Klaxons up now. Been out for a while but never saw it until Sunday night on MTV2's Subterranean.
