Artist Profile: Thunderheist

Thunderheist

The lady runs the mic, and her name is Isis. The emcee, a Nigerian-born, Canadian-raised phenom who has shared stages with hip hop heavyweights and even played "Show Time at the Apollo". Their hard-hitting rhythms are courtesy of Grahmzilla, a highly versatile producer /DJ. These two Canadians are the duo dubbed Thunderheist. Thunderheist unleashes serious electrocrunk boom rap with ribcage rattling bass breaks laced with clever rhyming flip with everything from 80s classics to digital booty bass and slowed down to a dirty Southern bounce.

Artist Profile: Foals

Foals

Foals are a dance-punk band hailing from Oxford, England. The five-piece group are known through extensive live playing around Great Britain for its mix of indie with elements from techno and math rock. The band has signed with Transgressive Records, and played a number of shows at the 2007 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Foals have been noted for thier high level of technical ability, and their penchant for playing house parties. Unlike other bands, Foals have notably been quite guarded about their demos. Erratic quality control in the songwriting process has left the band hesitant to parade them in front of a wider audience. They have not widely distributed them and have instead opted for their tracks to be streamed only from their Myspace.

Artist Profile: Ghostland Observatory

Ghostland Observatory

Ghostland Observatory is the Austin, Texas based duo of front man Aaron Behrens and producer/drummer Thomas Turner. Behrens’ vocal style and stage performances are unique and uncompromising, and he has drawn early comparisons to Freddie Mercury and Prince. Turner is heavily influenced by electronic artists such as Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier and Green Velvet, as well as rockers such as The Animals, David Bowie, and The Clash. With their spectral blend of electronics, drums, guitar and vocals, they have emerged with a sound that is the culmination of past influence and present inspiration, and can only be described as BALLSY.

HALLELUJAH HOLLA BACK??

What the fuck is this? Remember the guy that won VH1's "The White Rapper Show"? You know, the guy that coined the phrase "Hallelujah Holla Back." Me neither, lol. Anyway, his name is John Brown and his new song/video is a joke. In fact, I thought it was one of those SNL Digital Shorts from Saturday Night Live, but sadly its not. The self pro-claimed "King Of Da Burbz" is the next Vanilla Ice. Watch it for yourself...

Bloc Fluxes For Conan

The boys of the Bloc recently performed their new song "Flux" live on Conan O' Brien. You can watch it hear. The sound was very low (the guitars and vocals not the actual recording video.) I like it, very very different.

Video Of The Week: Week One

I've decided that there are way too many music videos being made and never seeing the light of day to the masses. Most of these videos are only seen by fans and the music elite. So I've decide to bring a few to everyone, once a week. This week:

Bat For Lashes' "What's A Girl To Do?"

Quick bio: Bat For Lashes are an all girl band from Brighton, England. Fronted by Natasha Kahn. Bat For Lashes' music have been compared to singer/songwriters like Bjork, Thom Yorke, Kat Power, Tori Amos, and Kate Bush. so here it is:

Bat For Lashes "What's A Girl To Do"?

on a side note, I really don't care that much for this band or their music, but, I do think this is a very good video.
